Two weather warnings now active for Island as Storm Herminia rolls in

National forecaster Met Office says strong and gusty winds may bring some disruption, with Red Funnel services affected.

The warning came into effect at 6am this morning, and runs until 6am on Tuesday (January 28), with another period of strong and gusty south-westerly winds forecast.

Gusts between 60 and 70mph are possible near the coast, with gusts of 50mph possible inland, but they are expected to gradually ease from the west on Tuesday morning.

A second yellow warning has been issued this morning, for heavy, blustery showers and possible thunderstorms.

The Met Office says strong winds will drive in a ‘succession of showers’ throughout today before slowly easing during tomorrow morning.

The national forecaster also warns of flooding impacts, primarily affecting road travel, and additional hazards, including lightning strikes and hail.

The Isle of Wight ranked among the highest in the UK for wind gusts recorded during Storm Éowyn last week and over the weekend.

Meanwhile, an Environment Agency flood alert remains active for the Island’s coast, with this morning’s tide (9.30am) expected to be higher than normal due to the unsettled weather.

This evening’s tide at 22.12pm is forecast to be 30cm lower.
