Man named and charged over alleged attack on supermarket staff

Another arrest has also been made in connection with a report of violence at Waitrose, East Cowes on February 6, at 4pm.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was reported that a member of staff had been assaulted by a man.

Police attended and located a man at the scene, who became verbally abusive and violent towards officers.

A spokesperson for the force previously said he was “intoxicated”.

Carl Frederick Isham, 40, of St Edmunds Walk in Ryde, was detained and has since been charged with common assault of an emergency worker and using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent.

He is next due to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 11.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assault and theft in connection with the incident at Waitrose.

It was reported that more than £100 worth of items had been taken from the Waitrose store.

He was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and a further count of theft in relation to an incident a short time later in which items were reported stolen and damage caused to a fridge at the Co-op store on York Avenue.

He has been released from police custody on conditional bail until May 6, pending further enquiries.
