Red Funnel is running to a heavily reduced ‘commuter’ timetable on its Red Jet service from today (Monday), in response to falling passenger numbers.
The current lockdown has once again led to a reduction in the number of people crossing the Solent. As a result, Red Funnel has taken the decision to run just 7 crossings a day between West Cowes and Southampton.
Demand for the hi-speed service is down to be down around 60% and year-on-year passenger numbers are just 15% of what they were in November 2019.

Meanwhile, Wightlink have completely suspended their Fastcat catamaran service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour.
The cross-Solent operator decided to pull the service completely, on a temporary basis, in response to low passenger numbers. They say sometimes they are transporting less than 10 people on a crossing.
Hovertravel are continuing to run between Ryde and Southsea, but only in good weather.
