‘I KNEW I WAS OVER’ – DRINK DRIVER CAUGHT WITH COCAINE RECEIVES 20-MONTH BAN


23-year-old Ashley Hills has been handed a 20-month disqualification from driving after being caught behind the wheel whilst twice the drink-drive limit.

Hills, of Mountfield Road in Wroxall, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (21st May) charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level about limit and possession of a Class A drug – namely cocaine.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, told Magistrates that at around 05:35 on 16th January this year Police spotted a vehicle driving without any lights on travelling down Ocean View Road, Ventnor.

Officers stopped the car and conducted a roadside breathe test, which Hills failed. He was taken into custody at Newport Police Station as a result.

During a search, a small bag of white powder was found – which was later confirmed as cocaine. This led to the charge of possession of a controlled drug.

Magistrates handed Ashley Hills a 20-month driving ban and fined him £220, as well as ordering him to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
