65-year-old Clive Abbott has been charged with a number of firearms offences, including possessing a firearm that is considered a prohibited weapon.
Abbott, of Cockleton Lane in Gurnard, is accused of being in possession of a Jager AP74 .22 semi-automatic assault rifle without a certificate on 9th March this year. On the same day, he is said to have had in his possession, also without a licence, a sound moderator – also known as a silencer.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court heard on 1st December how Mr Abbott was also found in possession of a Webley and Scott Model No 5 .36 revolver, which had a barrel less than 30 centimetres in length. This is considered a prohibited weapon.
Investigations have also led to Clive Abbott being charged with possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of an offensive weapon, namely an ASP baton.
He will now appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court accused of a total of 7 offences on 4th January. He has been bailed until that date.
