BEMBRIDGE LIFEBOAT JOINS SEARCH FOR MISSING KITESURFER OFF HAYLING ISLAND


Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to help search for an unaccounted kitesurfer off Hayling Island last night (Saturday).

The Tamar-class ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was launched at 21:40 following a request from Solent Coastguard to assist in a large scale search for a kitesurfer who was unaccounted for off Hayling Island.

The lifeboat and her crew joined a number of search and rescue assets already undertaking a search including Hayling Coastguard Rescue Team, Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team, 2 lifeboats from Hayling Island RNLI and Coastguard Rescue 163 helicopter from Ltd. Coastguard Rescue 175 from Lee-on-Solent had also been involved but was redeployed to a separate incident south of The Needles.

Conditions were quite lumpy in the F5 west south westerly wind but it did not take long for the lifeboat to reach the designated search area and start the first of 31 legs.

With no sign of a casualty the search was reduced and Bembridge Lifeboat was released at 00:15 this morning, returning to the Offshore Boathouse and being recovered by 00:45.
