Magistrates this week fined a Sandown man £80 for possession of a small bag of cannabis.
21-year-old Billy York, of High Street in Sandown, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, laid out the very basic facts of the offence. It was said that during the early hours of 7th May this year, York was spotted by Police stood next to a car on Ryde Esplanade. Officers approached him and noted he had something in his hand, namely a spliff. A search of his person was carried out and a small bag of cannabis was discovered.
York was ordered to not only pay the £80 fine but costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34 – a total of £199.
